Drizzly Spring with Some Sunbreaks

Seattle is back to its usual gray and drizzly self this Saturday, and while I’m bundled up at a coffee shop, I can’t help but reminisce about the beautiful, sunny stretch we had last week. Was it false spring? Fool’s summer? I never quite know what to call those rare warm days in April—but whatever it was, I was here for it. Sunshine in Seattle is always a treat, and I took full advantage of it.
I kicked off the week with a mini city hike, strolling through Olympic Sculpture Park, Kerry Park, and Centennial Park—three gems that flow into one another and offer some of the best waterfront views in the city. With the sun out, the water sparkling, and the mountains in the distance, it felt like I was in a postcard.
Next up: Discovery Park. I’ll never tire of the views from there—those sweeping vistas of the Puget Sound never disappoint. I wrapped up the nature portion of my week at Carkeek Park. No beaver sightings this time (I was hopeful!), but I did catch a couple of trains gliding along the tracks. Honestly, those train conductors must have the best coastal views as they shuttle goods from port to port. It’s got me thinking… is it time for a scenic Amtrak adventure?
One of the week’s highlights was a long walk through Queen Anne with a friend. We started in Upper Queen Anne and made our way down to Kerry Park and then to Bhy Kracke Park—a new spot for me! The views from Bhy Kracke are underrated, offering a stunning angle of the Space Needle, Capitol Hill, and Lake Union. We also passed by some jaw-dropping homes along the way—each one a little daydream of its own.
To cap off this sunshine-filled week, I met up with another friend for a walk around Green Lake. I grabbed beet root tea from Retreat (my favorite!) and caught up while watching some very adorable baby ducks waddle around. Spring really knows how to show off sometimes.
Even though the gray has returned, my soul feels a bit sunnier after a week spent outdoors soaking up this city’s magic. Until the next sunbreak...
